Developing new banning system, ban rules for Minecraft Survival Server.

Ok lets start an honest and strong conversation here..  about cheating on YASMP.  It's going on all over the place and I'll be the first to admit our system for dealing with it is uneven and even perhaps unfair, where we are quick to permaban a whitenamer over a vip, despite the VIP page and rules stating that ther are no exceptions.  I'm going to start with a frame work and you all can lend your opinion.  And we'll see if by the New Year we can have some new anti-cheat rules and ban rules in place.

1. A 3 day tempban for any player exhibiting hackish behavior supported by accompanying NoCheat log violations.   (While so many will complain and say they lagged, lets be honest, its a BS excuse.  I lag hard, I never get NCP violations unless I'm using one of my hack clients.. and YES I USE HACK CLIENTS, as an ADMIN it is my duty to know how they work, what they can do, and what things happen when they are used in the server logs.)  These bans will be administered by admins only (note to admins, do you receive the NCP violations in your chat? If not let me know).

- what this means.. is, if you start triggering nocheat violations - an admin will invisibly and instantly teleport to you, and if you are exhibiting cheatish behavior you will be given a 3 day, instant and non-appealable tempban with a warning to stop cheating.

Here are things that will get you a ban:

• Hovering over water, lava, and or block glitching as to appear hovering over ground - although this can be legitamately done via broken game physics, if you do it.. even legitmately - BAN.  So don't do it. It serves no purpose, but is a major indicator of a hack client.  This is not something that is done accidentally or because of lag..   20 years as a gamer and a software developer - dont even try that argument with me.
• Attack angle violations, too many attacks over time:  In conjunction with an admin witness, if triggered multiple times, this is a hack. It is possible to trigger this will mob farming, standing on something like a step or slab and attacking many mobs through a 1 block hole... however, on the move and in pvp combat..  this is aimbot.
• NoFall violation:  When nofall violation is triggered it means you are using nofall. I've tested and tried to duplicate and nofall absolutely only triggers NCP when someone is using that specific hack.  I'd give the go ahead for admins to 3 day ban without witness on a nofall if they see fit.
• Transferring inventory too fast.  I've test and had other test this violation. Attempting to move inventoy to or from your inv and a chest as fast as possible manually.  Again, not possible the NCP nails it.. if you trigger this (inv tweaks, other hacks to rapidly deploy much stuff to/from inventory spaces)  It will be a 3 day ban.

Admins - here are violations that are often false positives.

• Breaking blocks too fast -  this can happen in some cases legitmately.  Sheers on leaves, diamond shovel on clay, efficiency d-pick on stone, efficiency d-shovel on sand and gravel.  If you are receiving this error, and the player has a bare hand or a normal tool..  then ban.
• Godmode - this can be legit becuase of lagging out or the player attacking lagging.  As it is, Nocheat cancels the hack and the player should take damage anyway.. so trying to use godmode hacks are really not doing anything anyways,, and since it can easily be a false positive might just have to let that one go.

Now, if there is conclusive proof presented by players like quigy's videos or an admin sees something with their own eyes that is undeniable (although vid or screenies would be preferable)....    30 days no questions asked no appeals..

Next - ban evasion. We know a lot of you have alts/siblings/etc -  here is the crackdown part of this conversation.  You get yourself banned on a character with known alts..  ALL the alts will be banned too, don't care if was your brother or friend or your dad!  Whats the point of these mini bans to try and reduce cheating if you can just relog as someone else.  And if you think we don't know each and every one of your alts..  guess again.  To be perfectly honest me and DP have been letting you all get away with a lot.    Lets take a real example.

Before hydro became a VIP - I caught him twice digging into xray traps I made and banned him.  Then he got vip and also appealed to me personally on mumble for an unban.  So I unbanned him.  Then he gets caught using it again.  Not only that.. he was obviously using it several times when were clanned together, raiding bases.   SO I personally apologizde to all of Pwn9 for knowing about someone cheating and not banning them.

Starting 2013 - this all changes.  I am re-promoting my tremor77 alt to admin and quitting the game.  My new focus will solely be on managing the staff and players of YASMP with complete fairness, and strictness.

So a note to those who cheat or ride on that edge of it - tone it down.  If you like to do exploity things legitamately - don't.  If there is a chance that what you are doing, legitimately, that may trigger anticheat notices..  don't do them.  It's that simple.  The only way to clean up this server is to have a straightforward, no exceptions policy.
